Is it legal to look up whether a house is in foreclosure?
Yes. Foreclosure filings, auction notices, tax delinquency and ownership records are public records maintained by county governments. This tool compiles those records; it reports on properties, not people, and it is not a consumer report.
How do I find out if the house next door is in distress?
Type the full street address above. If county records show a foreclosure filing, scheduled auction, tax lien, vacancy flag or long-distance owner, the signals appear instantly. If nothing shows, the property currently has no distress flags on file.
Why would a vacant or distressed house matter to me?
For neighbors, a distressed property explains deferred maintenance and hints at a coming sale. For buyers and investors, it is an opportunity: owners under documented pressure often accept fair cash offers well under market value before the situation forces a worse outcome.
Can I contact the owner of a distressed property?
